Peer Pressure   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  The hard part of being a teenager is learning to make the right decisions. One of the things that affects decision making is pressure we encounter from friends. Peers influence life. At this stage in life, which is our teen years, we will always try to fit in. Everyone has or will face peer pressure sooner or later. Peer pressure can be broken down into two areas; good peer pressure and bad peer pressure. From being a teenager myself, I have been placed in situations where I was pressured into drugs and alcohol. It‘s hard to say no, but to avoid peer pressure, you just have to stand up for yourself and walk away from it.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Whether we know it or not, peers influence our life just by spending time with us. We learn from them, and they learn from us. It’s only human nature to listen and learn from other people in our age group. As people grow into adulthood, peer pressure rarely occurs because they are older, so they can do a lot to take care of their self, be more independent, and make more choices on their own. (1) During the start, when the first settlers came to China, the Chinese have been an extraordinary civilization, from its philosophies to technologies. It has been ruled by Emperors who have tried to unite China. Those who were successful were usually blessed with a Dynasty which lasted for a while. The Chinese have prospered and suffered. From the oldest resident in China and the oldest dynasty, Xia dynasty, there have been millions of well-known people who made great contributions to the harmony, unity and growth of Chinese civilization.They contain emperors such as, Hanwudi (Emperor of Han dynasty) and Li Shimin (Emperor of Tang Dynasty), famous scholars such as Confucius (Great Educator/Guru in Spring and Autumn period), and great scientists like Zhu Chongzhi and Zhangheng. It is their great contributions and efforts that made China appealing and pleasant today. Nonetheless with a country so rich in history and culture, there are many factors to be taken in account by marketers. My awakening to public health occurred in junior high school when one of my close friends disclosed to me that he contracted HIV from his partner who did not disclose his status. As a senior exit project, we collaborated together to help spread awareness to our peers and led open discussions on safe sex practices. The support of our peers and their genuine interest in becoming more knowledgeable about HIV/AIDS was most memorable. Being a confidant for him and understanding how this virus affected his activities of daily living enticed me to reach out and become an advocate and resource to others also suffering through the epidemic. In my efforts to further understand HIV/AIDS, who it affects, and how I could become an activist, I relocated to the District of Columbia to participate in a year of service with AIDS United AmeriCorps program. With the HIV/ AIDS rate being the highest in the District among U.S cities, beginning in this area seemed most necessary. Primarily, I serve at Food Friends, a non-profit organization that fosters a community of caring men, women, and children living with HIV/AIDS, cancer, and other life-challenging illnesses by preparing and delivering specialized meals and groceries in conjunction with nutrition counseling.
